From all of us at C. Todd Smith Law, we hope you and your families are healthy and safe during this time of National concern as a result of the COVID-19 virus. We are taking every precaution to safeguard the health of our team members, visitors and clients.
C. Todd Smith Law is Open for business.
We are open for business and working normal hours. We understand that our personal injury clients need to be compensated for their injuries quickly. The team at C. Todd Smith Law is working diligently to keep cases moving without interruption. There will be challenges over the next few weeks beyond our control and may result in some delays.
If you are receiving medical treatment for your injuries, please contact your medical provider to ask about their office hours and patient procedures. Most importantly, if you are sick or showing any kind of symptoms, please inform your medical providers immediately.
If your case is currently in litigation.
We expect there will be delays in resolving your case that are beyond our control. For example, courthouses are basically closed except for certain emergency matters. Jury trials have been temporarily suspended. Hearings are being done over the telephone. If a deposition or mediation is scheduled in your case, there is a chance it will be rescheduled by the mediator, defense attorney, or court reporter. We will do our best to keep all appointments as currently scheduled. We appreciate your patience and understanding if your appointment is cancelled. If your appointment is scheduled to proceed, please tell us immediately if you have any cold or flu symptoms or aren’t feeling well. We can reschedule when you are feeling better.
For cases that aren’t in litigation.
We are monitoring how insurance companies will respond to this crisis, but a colleague in Seattle advised me that some insurance companies have closed their claim offices and are not actively negotiating settlements. I would expect as the financial part of this crisis gets worse, many insurance companies may delay or deny more claims. To combat any delay tactics, we may need to file lawsuits on more cases to keep them moving. Every case is unique, and we will consult with our clients on a case by case basis to analyze their circumstances and plan the best path forward.
Meetings by appointment only.
We are following the CDC guidelines in an effort to keep everyone healthy and working effectively. Some of our team members will be working remotely, but I will be in the office during normal work hours for now. If the spread of the virus increases in our area, I will also be working remotely. We are a paperless law firm utilizing a cloud-based case management system, prepared to work remotely, maintaining 100% effectiveness.
For clients who want or need to come to the office, we will be here for you, but ask that you schedule an appointment in advance. If you just need to drop off documents, you may do so without an appointment. We will continue our practice of frequent communication by telephone, email, and text.
We appreciate you and your referrals to C. Todd Smith Law.
