As we’ve written about on our blog, Florida highways are among the most dangerous in the country. Automobile accidents happen every day in Orlando and our neighboring communities. Do you know if you have adequate automobile insurance to protect you if you are hurt in an accident? Also, there are several steps you should take right away if you have been in a car accident. Make sure you have all the information to protect your rights. If you have questions about your auto accident, with our many years of experience handling cases just like yours, C. Todd Smith Law can help.
Motorcycle Accidents
One of the best things about Florida is our beautiful weather. That makes Florida one of the best places anywhere in the country to ride a motorcycle. As a result, Florida roads have more bikers than most other states in the country. However, because motorcycles don’t have the safety advantages of an automobile, motorcycle riders are far more likely to suffer severe injury or death when involved in a traffic crash. Most motorcycle accidents occur because other motorists didn’t see the biker, so make yourself as visible as possible so you can be seen by other drivers. Trucking Accidents
Large trucks, commonly referred to as a tractor-trailer or a semi-truck, are all around us on Florida roads every day. Because of the size and weight of these vehicles, they are usually the most dangerous vehicles on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2008 there were 380,000 large trucks involved in traffic crashes in the United States, and 4,066 were involved in fatal crashes. A total of 4,229 people died and an additional 90,000 were injured in those crashes. At C. Todd Smith Law, we have the experience and passion to aggressively prosecute the drivers and corporations who own these trucks when negligence is the cause of these accidents.
Wrongful Death
Florida’s Wrongful Death Act allows for the family of someone who has died as the result of someone else’s negligence to bring a claim to recover damages for the loss of their loved one. These claims are complicated because the types of damages that can be recovered are subject to the Act. The survivors who can recover may include the decedent’s spouse, children, parents, and other blood relatives who are dependent for support upon the person who died. At C. Todd Smith Law, we have had the privilege to serve families throughout Florida in these difficult and emotional cases.
