We are pleased to announce that associate attorney, Amy J. Carter, has been selected as a fellow to join the 2014-2015 class of The Florida Bar’s Wm. Reece Smith, Jr. Leadership Academy.  Ms. Carter was selected as one of 60 attorneys from hundreds of applicants across the state. The Academy’s Mission is to identify, nurture and inspire effective leadership within the Bar and the legal community. During the program, Ms. Carter will participate in leadership activities throughout the state.

Ms. Carter attended Florida A&M University College of Law where she graduated magna cum laude. While in law school Ms. Carter was awarded a Florida Bar Foundation Fellowship. As a Fellow she had the opportunity to work with Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida on cases that affect children, immigrants, disabled clients, the elderly, and domestic violence victims. Ms. Carter was also a member of the Law Review and served as the Articles Editor.  Her article entitled Fixing Florida’s Mental Health Courts: Addressing the Needs of the Mentally Ill by Moving Away From Criminalization to Investing In Community Mental Health was published by Wayne State University Law School’s journal of Law in Society.

Ms. Carter was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2009, and in that same year began working as an Assistant Public Defender in Orange County. She joined our law firm in 2012 and practices in the areas of personal injury and criminal defense.

Ms. Carter is the president-elect of the Central Florida Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers and serves on the board of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She is also a member of the Orange County Bar Association as well as the Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers.  Ms. Carter is an active volunteer in her community and currently serves as secretary of the West Orange Kiwanis Club, a community service organization dedicated to the cause of helping improve the lives of children.
