Below is a link to an interesting article from the Orlando Sentinel about how vehicles traveling on roads with higher speeds are less likely to stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk.
On higher speed roads the danger is even more serious for pedestrians. It’s the unfortunate irony that drivers are less likely to stop in crosswalks. Unfortunately, Orlando and Central Florida rank near the top of the most deadly cities for pedestrians. On average, two pedestrians are hit and injured by a car or truck every day in MetroPlan Orlando. A motor vehicle is responsible for the death of a pedestrian every week. Failure to observe a pedestrian walking across streets leads to tragic and deadly accidents. Watch out for every pedestrian and look out for one another.
